The story of Shreeja Mahila Milk Producer Company Limited (SMMPCL) begins when National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) established during 2014 at the feet of Lord Balaji in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh. Though, NDDB started multiple Producer Companies across country, they understood the situations prevailing in Andhra Pradesh better and formed Shreeja as an all women Producer Company.
The company's core operations revolve around the aggregation, procurement, processing and marketing of milk and its derivative products. The very purpose of the company reflects in its Mission statement where the main objective being paying remunerative price to the members for their milk supplies while providing fresh, unadulterated and high quality milk and milk products to its consumers at a reasonable price.
There are 14 different departments viz., Procurement, Sales & Marketing, Manufacturing & Logistics, Quality Assurance, Producer Institution Building, Finance & Accounts, Human Resources & Admin, Information Technology, Company Secretary & Legal, Purchase & Stores, Business Excellence, New Product Development, Engineering Services & Projects, Corporate Communications while Chief Executive’s office oversee the development of all.
With great reverence and zeal, the rural women of the severely drought-prone Rayalasesema region in A.P. wove a tapestry of dreams, courage, innovation, empowerment and global acclaim. Shreeja emerged from the determination of 27 women members initially and has grown to the world's No.1 women-owned organization having more than 1.20 lakh member base. Out of them 95% are small and marginal landholders who own two or three cows and depend on them for their livelihood.
Putting in simple words, each and every woman member supplies milk to the company will get the milk bill directly credited to her bank account every fortnight. This certainly gives them socio-economic upliftment and financial freedom. Some of Shreeja's member-owners serve on the Board of Directors, making strategic decisions, using laptops and smartphones to present and share data through Shreeja's "owners app." These digital tools empower women to monitor milk quality, quantity and bill payments seamlessly.
Though a Producer Company’s nature is private by itself, the ideological support given by NDDB and NDDB Dairy Services and Mother Dairy certainly add great value for Shreeja. It is evident that Shreeja could bag multiple awards for its innovation, digital implementation, women leadership from different local, national and international organizations. The award received from International Dairy Federation at the World Dairy Summit during October 2023 at Chicago, USA in the category Innovation in Women Empowerment in Dairy Sector is a very special one. It is a real proud moment because Shreeja left the companies from 173 countries behind to bag this prestigious award.
